In the wake of this year’s general election, I feel both clarity and urgency for our mission ahead. Climate justice has always been an uphill battle, and it’s clear that the terrain just got steeper and rockier. Yet, this path isn’t insurmountable. Iowa IPL’s board and staff’s commitment to faith-rooted environmental justice and climate action in Iowa has only deepened, and we are more determined than ever to build a resilient, sustainable future.
Our purpose is to ensure that every Iowan has a voice in shaping what that just, sustainable future looks like. Real change isn’t accidental—it’s forged by people like you, who stand up, organize together, and build the future we envision. And despite the challenges, we are ready to rise to this moment.
Through our strategic planning, we’re refining our mission, vision, and values for real impact. Our renewed focus on base-building and engaging with congregations, alongside new programming, is designed to bring climate action directly to Iowa communities. (We’re excited to share this new iteration of our work with you in early 2025.) We know our community is looking to us for hope and direction, and we are ready to respond.
At the same time, we recognize that this work is demanding. Climate action is a marathon, not a sprint. We’re mindful of the need to recharge and care for ourselves and each other along the way. As a community, we know there will be days when one of us needs others to hold the hope—and we are committed to being that support. Iowa IPL has always shown resilience beyond our numbers, and I am confident we’re prepared for the road ahead.
Thank you for your commitment, faith, compassion, and resilience. Let’s keep pushing for the future we know is possible.
With gratitude and in solidarity,
Irene
