Iowa faces serious water quality issues largely due to agricultural waste and run-off. What can we do, as Christians and stewards of God’s creation, to stop the damage and begin the process of restoration?

Plymouth Creation Care & Justice Committee presents an in-depth discussion on Iowa’s water quality, Sunday, April 30, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Waveland Hall at Plymouth Congregational UCC (4126 Ingersoll, Des Moines). A free light lunch, featuring locally produced and sustainable foods, will be offered at 12:15 p.m.

Keynote speaker is Neil Hamilton, an agricultural law and policy expert and author of “The Land Remains”. A discussion featuring a panel of farming and water policy experts will follow, moderated by Pat Boddy, a water resources engineer and former conservation administrator. Panelists are Chris Henning, landowner and recipient of the Practical Farmers’ 2022 Farmland Owner Legacy Award; Ruth McCabe, leaders at the Conservation Team at Heartland Co-op; John Norwood, business owner and former Polk County Soil & Water Commissioner; and Matt Russell, Iowa State Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency, and a fifth-generation Iowa farmer.

The presentation is co-sponsored by Iowa Interfaith Power & Light, Interfaith Green Coalition, and Sierra Club of Iowa.
