Earth. أرض. Ardhi. 地球. Tierra. Aki. כדור הארץ. Gaia.
Today marks the 54th Earth Day. Although it may look or sound differently around the world, today is a day to recognize and celebrate our shared, common home. Not only do we share the same beautiful planet – we also share in witnessing the significant impacts of the climate crisis, from across the globe to our own backyards.
The climate crisis is a great Goliath of a beast, one that only continues to grow with time. However, unlike in the story of David and Goliath, this particular beast cannot be tackled by one person alone.
The time has come for us to unite and collectively channel our inner Davids by taking climate action in our communities now.
There are many ways you can channel your own inner David by taking climate action with Iowa IPL today:
Make a matched Earth Month gift – It is because of your generous gifts that we are able to do the work we do to protect our common home. The time to give is now! This Earth Month, your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000.
Attend our Earth Day Clean Energy Rally in Des Moines – It’s not too late! Join Iowa IPL and Clean Up MidAm today from 3:30-5:00pm starting at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral’s rain garden in Des Moines for a bold call to climate action. Can’t attend the event in-person? View the event livestream here. See the accompanying event liturgy here.
Sign onto our letter to MidAmerican Energy – Join Iowa IPL and the Clean Up MidAm campaign in signing a letter calling on MidAmerican to stop burning fossil fuels and begin engaging in a dialogue about how we can work together to build a sustainable future that all people deserve.
Our Earth sustains us in so many ways; we should sustain her too. We hope you join us in celebrating and sustaining our common home today and always!
