I discovered Iowa Interfaith Power & Light when my life was at a point of transition and full of uncertainty. I was in my first year of college at Iowa State University amidst the beginning of the COVID-19 global pandemic. At the time, I knew I was interested in sustainability as it relates to agriculture, but I was thrown into a world where no one knew what the future held, and the status quo of a freshman trying to find their path looked very different.

Fortunately, my next step soon became clear. I spent the summer after my freshman year participating in Iowa IPL’s Called To Climate Action student leadership program. It was during this experience that I began to find my own voice and had the opportunity to explore environmentally-friendly practices being implemented in agriculture. Upon completing the program, I continued to pursue my degree in Animal Science, continuing to grow in my knowledge of agricultural industries and how best to help producers become more climate cognizant on our farms and within our communities.

Now as a board member, Iowa IPL continues to provide me with the opportunity to uplift rural voices while also allowing me to explore my own. Iowa IPL has truly helped shape the knowledge and skills I have today – continuing to display why our work is so important. As we encourage conversations about climate change and how it relates to our daily lives, actions we can all take to promote sustainable living become more evident and obtainable.

When you support Iowa IPL, you are supporting our communities and neighbors. You are uplifting rural voices. You are supporting better living, not just for ourselves, but for the generations to come.

Faithfully,

Claira Miller, Iowa IPL
