Iowa IPL Program Associate MJ Noethe poses with a festive mug filled with candy canes.

Growing up, I was always taught that the winter was a time to put rest and relaxation into practice. Despite this, December always seems to be the busiest time of year, even coming into competition with the summer farming months. This winter has been no exception. With new pottery and craft classes, winter mushroom projects, and working during a time filled with so much grief and sickness, I have begun to realize just how important it is to truly make time to recharge the body, mind, and soul.

My resolution for the new year is to start actively putting rest and relaxation into my daily schedule. Showing up for my community, friends, and family is one of the things that keeps my heart full, but sometimes it can be difficult to remember that as human beings, we need to take care of ourselves and fill our own cups too.

Spring is right around the corner, and seems to creep up sooner and sooner each year. Looking ahead at what the new year will bring, I am reminded that this will be another busy season. With the 2024 Legislative session kicking off, preparing for our next round of Called to Climate Action Student Leaders, and advocating for clean renewable energy, as well as safer and more transparent actions for our communities, I will once again have to remind myself to make time to practice building restful habits amidst the flurry of activity.

My time at Iowa IPL continues to fill my cup. I am grateful to be able to work with a team that supports each other as much as we support our community. With your help, we can continue to impact our community in a lasting way. We hope you consider making a donation to Iowa IPL this year, as we continue to fill our community cup.

Please be sure to fill yours too, preferably with a lovely tea of choice.

Take care this holiday season,

MJ Noethe (any/all)
