Iowa IPL is honored and excited to work with three student leaders from Iowa colleges. Our student leaders will collaborate to create our 2023-2024 faith statement, blogs, and our public event this fall. Each of our student leaders bring different expertise and experiences, as well as a strong commitment to climate justice. Please welcome our Called to Climate Action student leaders and learn more about them in their own words below!
We were able to build this team of Iowa student leaders due to the generous support of our individual and organizational donors. This program is 100% fully funded by donors like you. By giving a gift to Iowa IPL, you are not only supporting the work we do today, but you are also supporting bold and just climate action in our state for generations to come.

Ilianna Murphy (she/her)
Ilianna will be a junior at Simpson College and is majoring in Political Science and Social Justice Studies. She is active in the Student Government Association, Black Student Union, the Campus Activity Board, and the Powerlifting Club at Simpson. This past semester, Ilianna has gained experience working with a lobbyist firm at the Iowa State Capitol. Her intent is to attend law school and become a public defense attorney. Ilianna belongs to the United Methodist Church and enjoys helping with the children during vacation bible school.

Nazma Noray (she/her)
Nazma recently graduated from Grinnell College as a Psychology major. She is currently pursuing Master’s degree in Public Health at the University of Iowa. Nazma is excited to be a part of the Called to Climate Action Student Leadership Program with Iowa IPL this summer because of her passion for community health and empowerment. She is eager to explore the intersections between her Muslim faith, love for nature, and environmental justice advocacy. By delving deeper into her Muslim faith, Nazma aims to transform her thoughts and emotions into meaningful actions that not only empower Muslims, but also inspire individuals from diverse faith backgrounds to engage in environmental justice initiatives.

Katie Walsh (she/her)
Katie is an undergraduate student studying Psychology and Social Work at Loras College. For two years, she worked as an intern at Loras’ Father Ray Herman Peace and Justice Center where she held a prominent role in educating the campus on the environmental toll of fast fashion and promoting positive alternatives. In addition, Katie has also had experience working on racial justice, non-violence, and refugee rights.
