TURNING TOGETHER: A LENTEN FRAMEWORK FOR FAITHFUL CLIMATE ACTION

This resource is designed to help individuals, congregations, and small groups engage the climate crisis through faith-rooted practices during the Lenten season. Organized around weekly “Pillars of Climate Faithfulness” and grounded in the Year A lectionary, this resource invites participants to move through Lent together, from Ash Wednesday through Holy Week and Easter.

IOWA FAITH & CLIMATE MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

Each month, we send out an email newsletter which contains articles from staff members and others, news about upcoming events, links to our latest resources, easy ideas for climate action, and more. Here’s where you can read past issues.

SHINE ON: 8 NIGHTS OF CLIMATE ACTION

This resource for Hanukkah offers eight nights of reflection, connection, and simple steps toward caring for our world. Each night highlights a core Hanukkah theme such as light, resilience, justice, and joy, and links it to a simple, practical climate action that households or communities can take together.

2025 CLIMATE ACTION ADVENT CALENDAR

This Advent Calendar was created for individual and congregational use. We hope it provides you with a meaningful way to celebrate the seasons of Advent, Christmas and Epiphany. The formatting has intentionally been kept simple for greater flexibility of use in a variety of settings, making it adaptable for other years.

FAITH AND CLIMATE BOOK LIST

This a curated selection of more than fifty titles that our Associate Director has found particularly insightful for individuals, small groups, and congregations. Most are recent publications and available in multiple formats, making them accessible for a wide range of readers.

“STORIES THAT INSPIRE” ARTICLE SERIES

In partnership with writer Deborah Douglas, we will be sharing twelve stories of community leadership, hope, and climate action to inspire congregational projects, strengthen advocacy, and move our state forward. The first article in the series came out in November, 2025.

CLIMATE-INFORMED CONGREGATIONAL GLOSSARY

This glossary helps individuals to both understand the basics of terms like “eco-anxiety” or “carbon neutral” along with some of the ways these terms matter for people of faith and the congregations they are part of.

FAITH & CLIMATE SPEAKERS BUREAU

Our new Speakers Bureau includes a growing list of individuals who can come to your congregation or organization to speak or preach on topics related to the intersections of faith and climate. Each of them would love to visit with you about your needs.

IOWA FAITH-BASED ECO-PROJECT MAP

We’re collecting examples of eco-projects from faith-based organizations in the state of Iowa, such as solar installations, community gardens, and educational efforts. Check them out or submit one from your congregation or faith-based organization.

ENVIRONMENTAL BLESSINGS (LITURGICAL RESOURCE)

This collection includes various pieces of liturgy that congregations have written and used when they dedicated solar panels, did a “Blessing of the Animals” service, and had a community garden blessing. They are free to adapt and use.

SEASON OF CREATION (VARIOUS)

September 1 – October 4 marks the Season of Creation, a time when Christians around the world come together to renew their relationship with the Creator and all creation. Here are a variety of resources you can use to observe this season in your faith community.
