Will you be one of our 1,000 Iowans Called to Climate Action? (If you are unsure if you’ve signed the statement, please email info@iowaipl.org and we will check!)
This summer our five Called to Climate Action college students wrote our 2020 Called to Climate Action religious statement. “Our faith and conscience call us to uphold the worth and value in all creation and to upheave injustice and exploitation.”
Together, our college student leaders call us to:
- Celebrate diversity
- Listen to climate crisis experts
- Amplify BIPOC voices
- Discuss and encourage climate action
- Attend to our communities
- Reduce our consumption
- Vote in all elections
In previous years, we have just collected religious leaders as signers to the statement, but after empowering our student leaders throughout the summer, we realize all Iowans of faith and conscience need to sign the 2020 Called to Climate Action statement.
We have an ambitious goal of having 1,000 Iowans sign our statement so we can share this powerful statement from young Iowans of faith and conscience with our state and federal elected officials.
Please help us spread the word and get to our goal (we are almost ⅓ of the way there):
- Send the statement link to your friends, family, and faith community.
- Share on social media! We have a social media toolkit with posts and corresponding images for both Facebook and Twitter. There are posts for each of the statement’s bullet points that can be shared over a period of weeks! (The Facebook images should also work for Instagram.)
- Write a blurb for your faith community’s newsletter.
- Present the statement to groups you are involved with that are passionate about climate change. (Green teams, advocacy groups, Bible studies, covenant groups to name a few.)
Clean energy, environmental equity, protecting our water, incentivizing regenerative farming practices are just a few important climate action items that we will be working on and will need all Iowans of faith and conscience to make the strides we need to save the planet. Signing this statement is a concrete action you can take to help realize these goals.
