While the work of Iowa IPL is grounded in empowering Iowans to take bold and just climate action, that work often gets noticed in other parts of the country. We are building partnerships across the national IPL movement as well as with other climate leaders, especially those grounded in faith.
In March, Matt Russell, our executive director, joined Dr. Katharine Hayhoe from Texas Tech University and now the Chief Scientist with The Nature Conservancy; Dr. Veerabhadran Ramanathan, Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric and Climate Sciences, Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego; and Melody Zhang, Climate Justice Campaign Coordinator at Sojourners and a leader with the Young Evangelicals for Climate Action for a virtual panel at the 2021 SXSW festival.
The panel explored how religious leaders and people of faith across all the world’s religious traditions are embracing being better stewards of the planet, framing climate action as a moral issue, and helping the world embrace solutions. These leading climate activists lay out the case for reaching faith-based hearts and minds.
The panel is now available to everyone through the SXSW YouTube channel. Watch this diverse panel of climate activists share their hope, grounded in faith, that we can turn the threat multiplier of climate change into the equity multiplier of climate action.
